Since 1950 the Salcha-Delta Soil and Water Conservation District has worked with landowners and managers to address a broad spectrum of resource concerns including erosion, flood prevention, water conservation and quality, wetlands, noxious weeds, and community development.
District activities and interaction with private landowners is voluntary, not regulatory. Districts work with government agencies and private companies to provide technical guidance and resource management assistance.
Soil & Water Conservation districts are comprised of cooperators within a geographical area, who elect a five-member board of supervisors to direct the work of the District. Board positions are volunteer and they receive no compensation for their work on the local board, other than a warm fuzzy feeling from doing what they can to develop agriculture while addressing conservation concerns.
