Irrigation Trial 2008
This year the District set up an irrigation trial to compare irrigated barley with dryland barley and irrigated canola with dryland canola. Abundant rains throughout the summer pretty well cancelled the trial since we could not determine any difference in the soil moisture.
Potential Trials for 2009
Potential research projects for the coming year include herbicide trials for control of Foxtail Barley and Narrowleaf Hawksbeard in barley and hay, and Chickweed in barley. Another challenge facing farmers is control of grass in fields when no-till and mulch-till systems are used.
The District hopes to collaborate with other researchers to address these challenges.
